From left to right: President Shukri al-Quwatli, Palestinian journalist Mohammad Ali Eltaher, Prime Minister Sabri al-Asali. Eltaher, a good friend of both Quwatli and Asali, was living in Damascus in the 1950s, exiled from Egypt after the Free Officer Revolution of 1952. He had befriended the two Syrian leaders during their exile in Cairo in the 1920s, when he owned and ran the nationalist newspaper Asshoura, which advocated librating Syria from French control, and Palestine from British occupation.
